Vale Wildlife - Successful Rehabilitation

Over the years, Vale Wildlife has helped save thousands upon thousands of wild animals, and here is an example of how rehabilitation can lead to another animal being successfully released back into the environment.

On the 20th June 2009, a baby weasel came into Vale after being found abondoned, presumably without a mum. He weighed only 20g and was placed in an intensive care unit which kept him warm. He was very young, perhaps only 5 days, and his eyes and ears were yet to open.

During the first few weeks he enjoyed feasting on meal worms and wax worms, which we handfed, before moving onto

chicks and puppy food.

As you can tell from the array of

photographs, he was certainly a

favourite of mine, and come weighing

and feeding time, he naturally posed

for the camera like a celebrity.

It was great news to finally

hear he could be released at

the end of August, and

weighing over 70g

(compared from 20g when

he came in as a baby), it

was a highly successful

rehabilitation.

He was released near to

 the hospital, but

unfortunately he made

a mad rush to escape

and we couldn't get

a picture in time!
